Springfield Town Library Organization
The Springfield Town Library updates its policies automatically when related state laws or town rules change. The library’s mission is to serve Springfield and nearby towns by providing reading and information services for all ages. It focuses on helping young children discover books, encouraging a love of reading, and offering resources for lifelong learning. The library treats everyone equally, no matter their background.
The library follows important guidelines from the American Library Association and the Vermont Library Association. It operates under Vermont state law, the Springfield Town Charter, and local town rules. The library tries to meet the state’s minimum standards for public libraries every year.
The Springfield Town Library has been around since 1870. It was run by a Board of Trustees until 1976, when it became part of the Town of Springfield government. The Board of Trustees still exists but works according to town rules. Important documents about the library’s history and rules are included in the library’s appendices.
The above is a summary of Section 0 of the Springfield Town Library Policy Manual. For the full approved version, please see the printed version at the library. Accessible pdf versions of this part of the policy manual are scheduled to be uploaded in the future.
