Springfield Town Library provides a broad and diverse collection of current, classic and notable materials in a variety of formats and reading levels to satisfy the personal, educational and job-related interests of the community, with more than 50,000 items in our Main Street building, and extensive online resources in our “virtual branch,” www.springfieldtownlibrary.org. The collection is available in four main areas of the building.
New Books are shelved in the lobby area, straight ahead as you enter. Large Print Books are located to the right of the front door, and free public access computers are located to the left.
The staircases to the right of the lobby bring you the original, 1895 Library building. The staircase on the right leads to the Flinn Room, a beautiful reading room where the magazines and newspapers are kept. The staircase to the left and behind the Flinn Room opens to the Rosemarie Ratti Children’s Room, serving children and families.
On the First Floor, behind the lobby area, Adult Fiction is shelved to the right, audio and video materials are located in the middle, and Reference and Historical Collection resources are on the left. Photocopiers and microfilm machines are in this First Floor area.
The stairway to the left, just beyond the circulation desk, leads to the Second Floor where you’ll find our Adult Non-Fiction section to the left of the stairway and our Young Adult area to the right.
The entire Springfield Town Library collection can be searched using our new Catamount Library Network online catalog. The online catalog also shows the collections of the entire Catamount Library Network member libraries, with over 250,000 items.
